Call To Order
- The August 9, 2022 board meeting was called to order by Lynn Flowers-Martin at 4:32 p.m.
- Lynn Flowers-Martin provided the Invocation.
Public Voices
- None.
Presentations:
- Executive Director Janine Langston presented a video highlighting the 2022 Summer Reading Program and Regional Manager, Bessie Miller, shared statistics on the program.
Approval of Agenda
- Lynn Flowers-Martin called for a motion to approve the Agenda.
- R. Jordan Davis moved to accept the Agenda.
- Yawntreshia Coleman seconded the motion.
- The Board responded unanimously in favor to approve the motion.
- Lynn Flowers-Martin confirmed the motion carried.
Approval of Consent Agenda
All items designated as "consent" are considered to be routine and non-controversial and will be approved by one motion.

Personnel Actions
- Lynn Flowers-Martin called for a motion to approve the Consent Agenda.
- Yawntreshia Coleman moved to accept the motion.
- Jermaine Johnson seconded the motion.

Operating Items Requiring Board Approval
Finance Report:
Damein Baity, Chief Financial Officer, presented the financial report to the board.
- Lynn Flowers-Martin called for a motion to approve the financial report.
- Yawntreshia Coleman moved to accept the financial report.
- R. Jordan Davis seconded the motion.
- The Board responded unanimously in favor to approve the motion.
- Lynn Flowers-Martin confirmed the motion carried.
Reports of Committee:
Personnel Committee
John Lyons, Jr. reported on the August 3rd committee meeting. Lyons shared the committee decided to reopen the job posting for the Deputy Director position for 14 days.
- Lynn Flowers-Martin called for a motion to approve the Personnel Committee report as presented.
- R. Jordan Davis moved to accept the motion.
- Jermaine Johnson seconded the motion.
- The Board responded unanimously in favor to approve the motion.
- Lynn Flowers-Martin confirmed the motion carried.
Unfinished Business:
Lynn Flowers-Martin asked that a tour of the Central Archives Department be scheduled prior to the next board meeting. Janine Langston will be scheduling a group tour for board members.
New Business:
Janine Langston informed the board that BPL’s annual Staff Day is scheduled for October 20, 2022. Langston requested a $500 contribution from the Board of Trustees Fund to support the 2022 Staff Day.
- Lynn Flowers-Martin called for a motion to approve the contribution of $500 from the Board of Trustees Fund for the 2022 BPL Staff Day.
- Kimberly Richardson moved to accept the motion.
- Yawntreshia Coleman seconded the motion.
- The Board responded unanimously in favor to approve the motion.
- Lynn Flowers-Martin confirmed the motion carried.
Executive Director's Report:
- Janine Langston stated that BPL is now operating in the 2023 budget.
- Langston reported that several BPL locations received support in donations, including the $55,700 donation from the Jefferson County Rapid Infrastructure Improvement Initiative for the eight BPL libraries located in Jefferson County District 2.
- Langston shared that the BPL Development is preparing the next fundraising event, Classic Cocktails, being hosted on October 24, 2022.
- Langston was pleased to announce that four BPL employees and two Trustees were able to attend the 2022 ALLA Annual Convention.
- Langston concluded with offering condolences to the family and friends of Yolanda Valentin who served in the BPL Archives Department for 34 years.
Board Member's Comments
Board members extended their gratitude to the BPL team for all their hard work and for a great 2022 Summer Reading Program. Members stated that the check presentation by Commissioner Sheila Tyson held in Titusville was a wonderful event. Yawntreshia Coleman shared about her experience at the 2022 ALLA Annual Convention and expressed her gratitude for being able to attend. Friends Foundation president, Sandi Lee, announced the Foundation will be supporting the BPL events Classic Cocktails and A Novel Tasting, along with BPL’s 2022 Staff Day.
Next Board Meeting is scheduled for September 13, 2022, at 4:30 p.m.
