Earthquake Hazards Program
Description
This web site is provided by the United States Geological Survey’s (USGS) Earthquake Hazards Program as part of our effort to reduce earthquake hazard in the United States. In the 2004 reauthorization of NEHRP by Congress, NIST has been given the lead role to plan and coordinate this national effort to mitigate earthquake losses by developing and applying earth science data and assessments essential for land-use planning, engineering design, and emergency preparedness decisions.
Drought Risk Atlas
Description
Why a drought atlas? Every time there is a drought event, the question is asked, “How does this drought compare……”, and the comparisons are usually to the last drought event, the drought of record for an area or a significant/historical drought that was remembered even outside of the area impacted. This information, up to this point, has not been readily available at individual stations, and more often than not has only been available for climate divisions. Information contained in the NDMC Drought Risk Atlas will answer all of these questions as well as provide a user-friendly portal to access these data.
Smithsonian Ocean Portal
Description
Welcome to the Ocean Portal. We focus on everything ocean – unusual and everyday organisms, ocean-inspired art, researchers devoting their lives to exploring the still mostly mysterious ecosystem. We here at the Ocean Portal learn something new everyday and we want to share it with you!
Earthguide
Description
"The science and nature of the Earth, its oceans and our environment. An interactive educational resource."
Earth Observatory
Description
Features the Earth Observatory Web resource of the U.S. National Aeronautic and Space Administration (NASA), which provides satellite imagery and scientific information about the Earth. Notes that the focus is on the Earth's climate and environmental change. Provides access to news articles, reference materials, and online experiments.
Geological Survey of Alabama
Description
Describes the current activities and responsibilities of the survey, affords the searcher access to archived metadata from the GSA and the Alabama State Oil and Gas Board, and lists the survey's publications that are available via online ordering.
U.S. Geological Survey: Geological Information
Description
This page is the home Web site for the Geologic Division of the U.S. Geological Survey. The Division's chief function is to carry out geologic and mineral resource surveys and mapping for the Department of the Interior. Contains geological information by region, information on research and publications, and links to other geological Internet resources.
Restore the Gulf
Description
The official federal portal for the Deepwater BP oil spill response and recovery. Provides the public with information on the response, current operations, news and updates, how to file a claim and obtain other assistance, and links to federal, state and local partners.
