AIGA-Birmingham Chapter
AIGA advances design as a professional craft, strategic advantage and vital cultural force. As the largest community of design advocates, we bring together practitioners, enthusiasts, and patrons to amplify the voice of design and create the vision for a collective future...Founded in 1914 as the American Institute of Graphic Arts, AIGA remains the oldest and largest professional membership organization for design and is now known simply as “AIGA, the professional association for design. Alabama Designer/Craftsmen
Organization for inspiration, cooperation and the exchange of information among Alabama craftsmen and those interested in fine crafts. AD/C aims to: encourages wide appreciation for and the appreciation of traditional crafts; to promote appreciation for the aesthetic value of crafts as well as for their utilitarian function; to raise, promote and maintain standards of design and craftsmanship.
Birmingham Art Association
BAA is the oldest arts organization in the region and has been an independent association of visual and performing artists, arts enthusiasts, writers, and musicians for most of the last century. BAA particularly support the efforts of emerging artists and provides gallery space for this purpose.
Birmingham Art Collective
Founded in May 2007, The Birmingham Art Collective works to help artists, designers, photographers, writers, musicians, actors, and other creatives in Birmingham promote themselves and their work. When The Collective puts on a show, the barrier to entry is low and the culture is pro-creative, allowing the artist to take chances and risk more. The Collective encourages art installations and unconventional mediums. It’s goal is to give new artists an opportunity to develop their work and to give seasoned artists a chance to reach new audiences. (from website)
Birmingham Needlearts
The Birmingham Needlearts of Birmingham, Alabama is a local chapter of The Embroiderers' Guild of America, Inc. The purpose is to foster the highest standards of excellence in needlework through an active program of education and study to further preserve the heritage and art of needlework.
Birmingham Quilters Guild
The mission of the guild is to promote the love of quilts, to encourage and preserve the art of quilts and quilting, and to contribute friendship, knowledge and encouragement to others. From a small group that was formed in 1978, BQG has grown to a large group of varied skills and talents - some members are beginners and others have years of experience. All have a willingness to share their talents with others.
Bluff Park Art Association
The Bluff Park Art Association is a non-profit incorporated group dedicated to promoting the Arts in the community, in the schools and in the home. It is led by a board of directors, who oversee the annual show, the permanent art collection and various projects undertaken throughout the year.
Cultural Alliance of Greater Birmingham
The Cultural Alliance of Greater Birmingham serves arts and cultural organizations and working artists in a twelve-county region. Their mission is to fund, support, nurture and promote arts and cultural organizations and working artists in central Alabama.
Greater Birmingham Fiber Guild
This group of fiber enthusiasts from Birmingham holds regular monthly meetings, usually at the Birmingham Museum of Art. They also have small interest groups that meet once a month to spin, weave, knit and just talk.
Hoover Art Association
The Association has a broad commitment to promoting the visual arts. Each year, the association awards a savings bond to a deserving Hoover High School senior selected by the art teacher. Members are also responsible for hanging students' work at the Hoover Library once a month. Other association activities include arts and crafts demonstrations and public art shows.
Metropolitan Arts Council
MAC spearheads the effort to increase and broaden financial support for the arts community. It not only serves as an advocate for the arts but it is also a promotional agency for the wide variety of arts groups now active in the metropolitan area.
Mountain Brook Art Association
The Mountain Brook Art Association strives to stimulate art in the community, encourage individual and group development and sponsor an annual art show. MBAA holds quarterly meetings for its members. Members have an opportunity to hear from a guest speaker or see a demonstration by a well-known artist at each meeting.
Shades Valley Camera Club
The Shades Valley Camera Club, serving the Greater Birmingham metro area, was organized in 1954 and has functioned continuously since its inception. The club's purpose is to share the fascinating hobby of photography. Photographic knowledge is shared through competitions, workshops, field trips and friendships. The club embraces all photography styles across both film and digital mediums.
Watercolor Society of Alabama
The Society was organized for the purpose of advancing the art of watermedia painting in Alabama by providing an opportunity to the art viewing public to observe excellent artwork from all regions of the United States. The Society supports and encourages members in their creative endeavors and offers incentives to artists working in watermedia through competitions, exhibitions, and workshops.
