About the Guide
The Homelessness Subject Resource Guide provides access to information about local social services available for the homeless as well as information about the variety of public policy issues surrounding homelessness.

The guide is divided into three sections. The first section, Local Resources, includes links to the websites of agencies and organizations in the Birmingham, Alabama area that offer services to the homeless. The Local Resources section consists of three parts, Local Shelters, Local Support Services, and State and Local Information Sources, each of which is organized alphabetically by the service provider's name.

The second section, National Resources, consists of two parts: Organizations and U.S. Government Agencies that conduct research, formulate policies, and seek to educate the public on issues related to homelessness.

The third section includes some of the Birmingham Public Library's subscription databases that can be used to research homelessness. These databases provide access to newspaper, magazine, and journal articles as well as reference materials that are suitable for elementary, high school, and college assignments.

Mission
The Committee to Protect the Homeless (CPH) is a grassroots organization created for the homeless by the homeless to bring justice and dignity to the homeless and indigent in Metropolitan Birmingham. Through advocacy, education, and the effective dissemination of information, CPH seeks to make social services more readily available to the homeless by improving coordination among service providers and informing the wider community of the complexity of the issues surrounding homelessness.
